Mesquite Wood For Sale

Note - I have just listed a number of fresh Mesquite and burly Mesquite blanks, both spindle and bowl turning.

Smaller Mesquite Turning Blocks

These smaller, generally square or rectangular blocks of Mesquite are suitable for small bowls, hollow-forms and small boxes (to ~6" diameter) and spindle turning of pepper mills, goblets, bottle stoppers, Christmas ornaments and the like. They are also suitable for resawing into pen blanks. Most are entirely heartwood with only a small percentage of sapwood and little if any bark.

Large Mesquite Bowl Blanks

These larger Mesquite blanks are generally whole and half-logs pieces. The half-log blanks are frequently untrimmed and contain the central pith and most of the sapwood and bark. Some are tight and fault-free, but many contain shallow pith and/or minor ring checks around the pith. CA glue is usually used to reinforce such cracks before or during turning. Some of the pieces have been roughly-rounded and are ready to mount on your lathe.

Mesquite Slabs and Other Interesting Pieces

As I cut the trees and saw the logs, I am always on the lookout for larger, intact slabs and pieces with interesting grain patterns. Some of these are available here. These larger pieces typically contain bark inclusions and major cracks associated with the wild and twisty growth of the Mesquite. Turners typically employ epoxy as a filler and reinforcement in these features. Used clear, black stained or with decorative fillers, this epoxy commonly enhances the beauty of the finished mesquite piece.
